Howdy!  Welcome to Arl’s World

Blogging from a small town in the big state of Texas.

A little about me …

CEO of my household, single mother of two adult sons.  Besides blogging, I enjoy painting, baking, photography and spending time with my sons.

I try to maintain an active lifestyle; long walks with my two dogs, going to the beach and lakes-  swimming, hiking, floating the river – anything outdoors.

Here I write about those experiments  –  photography, DIY, travel, dating, food, or whatever my latest adventure might be …Some good, some bad, but all making me who I am.  Because what is life without experiments, without trial and error. Life is a game, and we must play-Sometimes we win and sometimes we learn!

So come on in! Take a look around, stay awhile.

I hope you enjoy my blog.

Arlene

  1. Hi Arl,
What a great blog – I love recipes, home-making and visiting new ‘places’ too – great to share experiences… you are right, blogging IS fun – and although we’ve all got far too busy lives, it’s special to document the experiences along the way…
Take care of yourself and your lovely boys –

  2. Hello!
Thank you for following my blog. I know how many interesting blogs are out there and feel honored that you picked mine to follow. I hope my stories entertain and inform and my photos bring you joy and wonderment.
I travel mostly local but try to always find interesting places. I have lived in several different places and dig through my archives of photos to bring glimpses into places I have been. Sometimes I post a recipe because food tells a lot about culture.
I am not a professional photographer, so my photos are sometimes a little fuzzy and there are telephone poles and wires and other things along with what I was photographing. The older photos are 35mm, the newer are point and shoot digital and a few are Samsung Smartphone.
I am new to blogging so if you have any advice or critique please drop me a comment.

    1. Hi Dennis, Peanut Butter is the best! 🙂 I also have found some great things including clothes at thrift stores, you have to know where to look though. When I lived in Austin, we had some great thrift stores …now I am in a smaller area and we do not have as many to choose from. I still like to thrift shopping whenever I can. I am glad you liked my post. I agree it is becoming a lost art. I do feel that way sometimes …that it is an effort to get a word in with some people. Listening is a great skill and very useful in many areas of our lives. It could be work related, such as in sales (always good to have listening skills in sales to know what your customer needs) or on a more personal level …part of communication is listening. Thanks for visiting and commenting! 🙂

  4. Hi Arlene,

I have just published an eBook on Amazon entitled “Budget Traveler’s Guide to Manila, Philippines.” The book is an experience-based guide to traveling on a budget in Metro Manila for backpackers, travelers, and culture seekers.

If you are interested in the book, you can download it through this link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KNN4ZGE

If it happens that you know backpackers who are interested and are planning to travel to the Philippines, I will appreciate if you will refer the book.

    Big thanks!

    1. Thank you! The Bluebonnets were taken in the Dripping Springs area, near Austin. This is a common site in the Texas Hill Country in the Spring. They make a most beautiful blanket. Thank you for stopping by! 🙂

  6. Hello Arl —

I’ve written a humorous book called “Coffee Dates From Hell.”

I’d love to send you a free copy, no strings attached.

If you like it, maybe you could mention it on your blog

If you read a couple of chapters and decide it’s not for you, just recycle it.

If you’re interested you can read some more about it on Amazon. Just do a search for “Tilberry.”

By the way it’s a quick read at just 147 pages, with lots of pictures.

Just let me know where to send it.

    Thanks!

    Jim Tilberry

  8. Hello, I’m a single mom to a baby girl, Gigi. She’s 4 months old today. I love what you’re doing and am inspired by hearing your stories. I’m also a master’s student and conducting research on single moms. The brief survey is only 15 minutes and will help broaden current research of single mothers to include women who choose to raise children without a parenting partner, as well as, women who have become single after separation or loss of a partner. I hope to change the way we think about single moms and strengthen the community of ladies out there who are doing it on their own.
Participants must be single mothers over the age of 18 with a child between 12-36 months.

I would love it if you could post my graphic on Facebook or on the website with a link to my survey www.surveymonkey.com/r/momsolo
