Tips For Healthier Eating Habits

Most of us love sugary desserts, rich sauces, and fried foods.  Sure they can taste great and be hard to resist.  However, if you eat too much of these kinds of foods (high in fat and calories), you may feel sluggish and guilty.  You may struggle with concentration, having enough energy, and sleep deprivation may occur.  With just a few changes to your eating habits you can improve your overall well-being.

Food for Thought:

  • Eat steamed vegetables. Limit butter, margarine or cream sauces.
  • If you use salad dressing, use a low-fat one.
  • Avoid empty calories like those found in sugar-sweetened beverages and alcohol.
  • Drink an adequate amount of water each day.
  • When snacking, choose unsalted, whole-grain pretzels; air-popped popcorn; low-fat yogurt (also be aware of your sugar content on some yogurt brands) and fresh fruit.
  • Try not to eat anything close to bedtime.
  • Remember, “fat-free” doesn’t always mean “calorie-free”.
  • Limit take-out meals or fast food.
  • Limit foods with full-fat cheese or cream sauces and mayo.
  • Choose meats and fish that are grilled or broiled/baked rather than fried.

Making a few moderations and healthful changes to your diet can make a big difference in how you look and feel.  Before long you will see a new, better, healthier you!

Until next time …healthy is happy!
