I was first introduced to the wonders of Witch Hazel by my ex mother in law, Sylvia. She loved the stuff and swore by it! Like apple cider vinegar, witch hazel can do so many good things for our skin and health. There are so many wonderful uses. See below for some of them. 🙂
Healing aide – Witch hazel tightens skin naturally and promotes faster healing. Apply organic witch hazel to minor cuts and scrapes to stop bleeding. Store-bought witch hazel also often contains isopropyl alcohol which disinfects, making it a good choice for cleansing wounds before bandaging.
When applied to bruises, witch hazel can help to fade discoloration and speed up the healing process.
Natural Astringent – It removes excess oil and shrinks pores, also aiding in the decreased severity of blemishes. When used regularly, it works as a preventative agent for acne.
Discoloration and Puffiness around eye area – Witch hazel tightens skin and reduces inflammation which makes it an ideal natural remedy for treating discoloration and puffiness under and around eyes. Be careful not to get any of this natural astringent on the eyes themselves as it will result in significant pain and lingering discomfort from dryness.
Cool Down Sunburn – Mix Aloe Vera gel with some witch hazel to treat a sunburn. The anti-inflammatory power of the plant extract will aid your skin in healing while it and the Aloe help to cool the burn. This can also help to prevent skin from peeling in the days following a bad burn.
Bug Bites and Stings – Great to have to ease any pain and itching you may have from those pesky mosquito and other bug bites, stings that we experience here in Texas and other parts of the country. Yet another reason to carry a small bottle of this wonderful remedy with you the next time you plan to spend a day outdoors for that picnic by the lake!
How to use it: Use a cotton ball and apply to skin, avoiding sensitive skin around eyes.
DIY Facial Moisturizer – You can have smooth, soft skin without paying for expensive moisturizer. See below for the how to’s with this inexpensive alternative. 🙂
What you need:
2 tablespoons yogurt
1/2 banana
1 tablespoon honey
Directions:
Stir together two tablespoons yogurt, one half mashed banana, and one tablespoon honey. Spread the mixture evenly over your face. Allow to sit for about 15-20 minutes. Rinse off with cool water. ❤
Thanks for visiting!
I didn’t know any of that! I should be bathing in the stuff!
